Scope mounting a custom barreled Ruger #1
What are some options if a gent doesn't like Talleys?

I think a Weaver #85 and #89 lets you use Weaver and Warren rings. Conetrol also makes bases and rings for them if you happen to be made of money and don't mind waiting.

There are also Mickey Mouse bases that adapt from the Ruger system to the Weaver. But it's really just one more thing to get loose.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

I made a quarter rib to accept Talleys on mine but could just as well have made it for any thing else. Blank Weaver stock (steel) sold by Brownells would be a decent place to start. Regards, Bill

All kinds of options but I wouldn't even consider removing the Ruger quarter rib, that makes no since and its dovetailed for about any mount with a little work. Personally I would go with Talleys but that's not the question here..options would be a old set of Lynn Brownells, Control, weavers modified, even claws could be installed..the options are ten fold as about any mount can be modified to fit Ruger dovetails in the quarter rib..I see little problem with the Ruger rings myself, and they can be modified with a lever to QD..
