Wanted: .303 British chamber finishing reamer
Does anyone out there have a used chamber FINISHING reamer in calibre .303 British that they are interested in selling? The barrels that I'm using to build a double rifle are from 1910 Ross rifles so they are already chambered. However, after machining, they are about .030" short and need to be freshened out. I'm trying to avoid the $100.00 plus shipping, duties, and taxes if I order a new Clymer reamer from Brownells. That's a lot of money to spend for 30 minutes work and then to probably never use the thing again. I AM aware that there are one or more outfits in the USA that rent them, but I don't think that they do cross-border stuff.

Ron,
Chambers in that caliber are way larger than the ammo. Have you actually checked to see if you can chamber a round in each barrel? You might be able to. .303 head space is set by the rim and not by the shoulder. There may be huge amount of clearance already. I know the different brands of loading dies vary a lot when you check the location of the shoulder. If your factory ammo and your reload both chamber just set the barrels to have matching chamber depths. You can also cut off a sizer die to accommodate your chambers until you find a reamer deal that is not so expensive.

In order to use these barrels in a double rifle, I had to face off the breech end in order to remove the extractor groove. That has also done away with the rim recess, and requires deepening the chambers.

If you only shortened the chamber .030 it may still work but it sounds like you must have cut off much more.
