7-08 take-off Remington barrel?

I have a Remington VLS take-off 7-08 barrel. It's 26" long. It's had around 500-600 rounds through it. Bore and lands are excellent. The finish shows some wear, a few small rust spots and some wear. It was my 'Sendero' gun for 6 years and spent most of it's time in various tri-pods and blinds. What is it worth? capt david troll

Not much 25 to 50 I would say If that. Get what ever anybody well give you one can.

One can buy a new douglas barrel from about 135 and up.

Is the VLS the heavy barrel. How hot were the loads you were running through it. 5-600 is a lot if your hand loads are hot. I would be interested if it were in good shape.

A fellow named "Goforth", from SLC area, sells lots of NEW Remington take-off barrels for $50-$65, both "regular"chamberings and "magnums". He doesn't get many VLS barrels, so they are usually $10 or so more.

So you might be looking at that as kind of a comparative guide.

As a thought, if you wish to sell it, try putting it on eBay with minimum opening bid of around $40. You might be pleasantly surprised how much someone may pay for this.

Typically "take off" barrels are new barrels removed from new guns to start a custom. Used barrels are worth less.....

I agree...list it on ebay and see what you get.....I wouldn't set a minimum...just let it go.

Yes...all of Goforth's barrels I referred to above are barrels removed from new guns where the actions were used for some other cartridge or a different profile or different length of barrel (longer, in most instances).........

So, I would think a partially used-up 7-08 barrel would be worth less to most folks. Still, on eBay things do frequently sell for rather amazing prices.

A used barrel with rust and wear?

Put it on eBay and be happy with what you get. I agree that when most people are shopping for a take off barrel, they are looking for and expecting a new barrel.

Ebay would be the place, barrels in a harder to find calibre go for a lot more than they seem like they should. anything in .260, .280, 257 Roberts, 7-08 really go for a premium.
