I found a site with some nice looking actions. The price is not to bad
Is there anyone on this forum that own's one? Are the quality any good ? Who makes the in Europe? Are the actions straight and works well?

I read a report in a US magazine that the actions are made in Italy.


This image is from the Legacy Sports site. The black action goes for about US$500 but the magnum action (shown in the white) is about US$3,000 with bottom metal. For an investment cast action finished on automated machinery as they describe, the magnum action is priced too high.

They do "look good".

Maybe I missed something, but for $2500, what's the difference? Certainly there must be something more than what one can see here, IE the long tang and different bolt handle?

I am on the list for delivery of one of the "black" ones. It has not arrived yet. The magnum action does appear to be a horse of a different color. The action as well as the front bridge is longer. And no the difference does not seem to justify $2500 but then a Granite Mountain action is CNC and it is $3,000 also. I suspect there is a lot more to it. I have heard the $500 models ( mine was $275 on special) are rough and need a lot of TLC to get them in smooth and ready to go.

As I thought they must make a Damn good profit on these ones. I checked around and a action from Europe costs around 1200$. Dumolin also buys their large action from Italy. For 2200$ you can get a good custom german mauser action. A complete Mauser rifle from frankonia would cost around 4000-5000$ Magnum Mauser the very original.

I ordered a Legacy action about six weeks ago and received it within two weeks ($275 on sale). Chic is right in that the action is kind of rough. The finish on the action is fine, a nice dark blue with a good polish, however, the machining on the inside of the bolt shroud is very rough. So rough, in fact, that it scratches the bluing on the cocking piece. The cocking piece is also round and not finished nearly as well as the rest of the action. The last time I was in the Alexandria are I actually found Legacy Sports and paid them a visit. I talked to Pat Wheeler, their gunsmith. He agreed that the actions were a good starting point for a custom rifle, however, they did require some smoothing out. He also noted and I agreed with him that the bottom metal, three position safety, and trigger were well worth the $275 asking price at the time. I still haven't done anything with mine. It is sitting in the safe as I wait for a long chambered Lothar-Walther barrel in 338-06 and a semi-inlet stock from Claude Gatewood to arrive.

Rings to fit the double square bridge are a different story. Pat has a set mounted on an action in his shop that fit the dovetails. He told me to contact B-Square. However, when I called them they were clueless. I left a voice mail message with some nameless pencil pusher and have not received a call back. That was about three weeks ago. Until I find rings to fit I will go with flat weaver bases and 4x4 rings.

Overall, I'm pleased with the action and I think the price is right.

Why wouldn't someone just buy a Dakota Action for $2,500 (magnum) or $1,000 (regular) and not worry about finishing? These should be pretty much ready to go. Of course, the previous statement has been just made by someone that doesn't know a tang from a peep. But that didn't stop me.

rprinty, Maurice Melani is building some rings in Utah that are copies of Tom Burgess Rings that outside of claw mounts, have to be the best qd rings available. He can cut those bridges to fit the rings and I will do that with mine or if my mill is up and running by then, I will do it myself. I am going to do mine on a 9.3X64 Brenneke. I am tempted to get a WL blank and do an integral rib, barrel band and front sight ramp. It is only time and a lot of metal chips.

I do plan on doing a lot of handwork to get the action a bit smoother ....... and install a new bolt knob and handle.

This is my first attempt at a custom rifle and I think the Legacy is a good basis. Sounds like you will have something to be proud of with your 9.3x64 when it is finished. Especially with the barrel your planning to put on it.
