help with pre'64 M70 stock
I have a pre '64 Model 70 stock, recently "borrowed" from a friend. I would like to use it on a featherweight .243. However, the wood in the inletting is soooo very dry, I am afraid to use it before I try something....The question is "what something"??? I NEED to put back some of the lost moisture...hot oil? Give me some help with the "something I can do", please!!! Arthur Olds

If you are referring to the inletting only as you suggest, I would try some thinned stock oil cut about 50-50. My favorite is Pro-Custom Oil. I have heated the oil in hot water until is is about 100-105 degrees and applied with a soft brush. I am really curious why the inletting is so dry.

They left the inletting unfinished to wick away moisture. It will be fine as is or with a little coat of whatever you choose including wax.
