Dr. LouNo thanks! If I inherited something like that, the first order of business would be to call McMillan. The pistol grip looks like a hoof and the forend is just ugly. However, to each his own.

Mike in MichiganI actually had a rifle exactly like that one in my shop last year. As odd as it looks, it was quite comfortable to hold.

I never could figure out how Winslow anf some of the other wierd ones like Lawson ever lasted over a month in business. Sure not my cup of tea. Buy it for the barrelled action is all.

22WRFI would love to have it. I just wouldn't pay that price for it.

buckeyeshooterLooks like a fancied up Weatherby Custom!

Was it ever in style???
Absolutely was. Back in the 1950's rifle stocks just like that were in vogue.
I never was in vogue. I have always been a Bob Owen Sporter kind of guy, with classic lines, and outstanding craftsmanship.

Good hunting,

N E 450 No2I had a chance a couple of years ago to shoot an original Lawson thumbhole rifle.
It was a 300 Mag. It fed and extracted perfectly.
The workmanship looked very good.
It was very accurate, it shot great.
I had seen his rifle adds in magazines for years....
I was impressed with the rifle.
Whether you like that style or not it was well put together.

Tony, Probably never. I am not able to walk worth a darn. Just short distance.
Hope all is well. Wife is fine.

Zoboomafoo_dudeWow, that might be comfortable to hold, but I wouldn't want to take that thing out of the case in front of company.

BaxterBThis is akin to the pointy guitars that were so prevalent in the 80's. We had a saying about them " Stay away from those pointy guitars fellas, they'll give you VD."

Dago RedI just cannot believe that the 59' caddy was mentioned in the same thread as that rifle. it is absolutely gorgeous, curves, lines, chrome, a true gem.
Now, the above rifle, well, it's like a friend once said about ugly chicks, "they're like a scooter, fun to ride but you don't want your friends to see you on one". same here, may be comfortable, may even shoot great, but damn is it ugly.

The point is that it is a very dated style. If you like fins and chrome the '59 Caddie is where it's at, but if you don't...
The "classic" style stock is more utilitarian, like a Jeep, and never goes out of style.
I thought this quote from the ad was somewhat humorous: "It is like buying a CUSTOM BELGIUM BROWNING RIFLE IN 375 H&H MAGNUM GUN."
Just like it, except _____.
21 April 2010, 04:02
BriceBelieve it or not, I know a taxidermist/gunsmith in Montana who recently built a similar looking rifle. I'd guess it weighed at least 11-12 pounds. He planned to take it to Africa. For his sake, I won't even mention where in Montana he is located.

Michael RobinsonThe reason that rifle costs so much is that it was once owned by George Jetson. Or was it Jane, his wife? Daughter, Judy? Or his boy, Elroy?
Anyway, you get the point. Now that's provenance.

I think you meant to say "why they are asking so much." It actually didn't "cost" anybody anything because it didn't sell!
