duckboat25 wssm in Remington Seven?
My local dealer has a 300 SAUM Remington model 7 on sale. Would this would be a good basis for a rebarrel to 25wssm? Or is the magazine length of the model 7 too big for the super short cartridge? I'm wondering whether the extra .45" of magazine space would cause the cartridges to move around too much.
Thanks!

Toomany ToolsLength wise, I think it would work well, especially if you like to shoot long-for-caliber bullets like the 120 grain TSX. That being said, those super short fat cartridges pose a big challenge to make feed reliably.

butchlambertDuckboat,
What would you want the 25wssm? The 300SAUM is a much superior cartridge.

duckboatButch,
The gun would be mostly for deer and antelope. I'm getting ready to give my son his first deer rifle, so I'm looking for something moderate in recoil.
I already gave another model 7 rebarreled to 250 Savage to my older son. It's my younger son's turn now and I want to get him something good, but a little different. I almost got one of the factory model 7's in .260, but the 20" barrels are too short in my opinion. I am looking more towards a 22" barrel.
My goal is a lightweight, somewhat short, and moderate kicking rifle that will take down deer in open country hunting. I also need a model of gun that has youth stocks available.
Tools, I am concerned about the feeding from the magazine of the 25wssm, so I guess that is my main remaining concern. It doesn't bother me the fat cartridges don't hold as many in the magazine, but feeding reliability is key.
Maybe I should just pay the extra $175 it would cost me to buy a Seven in .260 and rebarrel it to the longer length I want.

WoodjackYou might be in for a headache with a model7 wssm, id rather just suffer a m70 if thats the cartridge you really want, to be honest, I got some dumby rounds and cycled them through a FWcrfWSSM, and high or low, fast or slow and anything inbetween, it cycled smoothly and ejected flawlessly, very much to my surprise! ...actually I was quite impressed.,,they really are a cute little bastard of a rifle, and feel neat in yer hands, but I really like the more practicle sense of 260rem in your m7.

butchlambertI'm with woodjack on the 260. I am not crazy about a hard kicking rifle in a kids hands until he can handle it. If you start them off right, the heavier recoil rifles will come natural later. I have had so many people dissatisfied with the wssm cartridges. Poor feeding and brass too hard to reload easily.
