I believe as part of the Gun Control act of 1968 firearms manufactures were required to add an alpha prefix to there serialization sequence.
I'm not exactly sure but I think that number puts your rifle in the 1997-99' range.

Rick , That site doesnt work for classic winchesters with the "G" serials

Anyone know of a web site that identifies the date of the "G" winchesters?

The G must not have anything to do with the year. My push feed Model 70 bought in 1986 has it and my Classic Featherweight bought in 1995 has it. FWIW the Classic FW is G142***.

I have a model 70 Classic SS, Serial # 3057** and it was made in 1999. So yours must be 1999 or later.

My above dates are off as I just checked my 1995 vintage M70 Classic. Its serial is in the G75xxx range.

FWIW all Winchester M70's since '68, no matter the flavor, have the G prefix.

My date is off too. I bought the rifle in '96 or '97.
