LBGuyWhat do I do now? Croked barrel
I bought a M70SS in Aug. Since then I have bought (and subsequently sent back) 3 different kevlar/fiberglass stocks because they would not fit properly. Today my gunsmith told me the barrel is threaded crooked (as in off center) to the action, and the problem has been that all along. Since the gun came from Winxhester this way, my only option is to send the entire gun back for repair. My questions are:
1. Since I had a trigger job done on the gun, will Win still fix the barrel problem?
2. For those who have returned a gun to Win, will they most likely say it still meets their standards, and just send it back?
3. What would you do if you were in my position?
Thanks fo any responses (other than "you shouldn't have bought a Win")

schromfI would start with it a phone call to Winchester customer service. Thats the first step, don't mention a trigger job.

malmI think the repairs are sent to the Arnold Mo plant. I have a classic in Stainless that I am sending back for a customer that is missing a piece of the lower bolt lug recess. How this shit gets past QC is beyond me...

I have the feeling this is a reasonably common occurrence. I had a M70 SS on which this was the case as well. Just goes to show the quality you can expect from factory guns these days. My rifle is currently residing with a smith to have the problem rectified. Sorry, can't help you with the warrenty repair issues.

LBGuyVisited my smith today. He had called Win and they told him to return the gun for their inspection. When he explained that the gun looked fine (even though the BA was crooked) with the BA mounted in their rubber stock, yet it would not mount worth a darn in a custom kevlar stock, the win guy said that their only interest was how the BA mounted in their own stocks. No problem - I traded the gun off this AM and ordered a Rem 700 XCR in 30-06. Very disappointed with Win at this point. Thanks for the responses.
