Thomas Jones, I am prety well convinced its a mex !
Using the excelent reference matierial posted here, and another site.(hosier gun works)
I am prety well convinced that my small ring mauser is mex.
Witch mex I don't know. I guess there are 1910s and 1936s. Both made by fn and fabrica de armas.
I have seen 1910s with the funny little disk on the cocking piece. Did the 1934s have the same thing ? This one has a typical mauser 98 bolt shroud with a buhler type safty,
It quite posibly was converted, but I don't know having never seen a 1936.
I will try to get some pics posted tonight if I don't work 11.00 hours again.

z1rThe 36's are easy to identify. The had a gas vent in the front ring that the 1910's did not.

Mark_Stratton1936 Mexicans work out very well. You can surface grind them all the way back to the bolt stop. I would be nice to find a piece of commerical bottom metal. I've redone them in 7X57 and 6mm remington.

the vent hole is there ! I had to take it out of the stock to find it but its there,
So it seems I have a 1936 mexican mauser !. And mark, thanks for the input.
How would you guys charectorize the strebgth of this action compared to a typicl WWII era large ring 98 ?
