All that is lacking is streamlining the bolt stop housing at both ends the way Bob Owen did it sixty years ago.

Back on Nov. 20,2003 I got an e-mail from the owner of this action with the following tittle:

"Would you give me an honest opinion"

He was a little concerned about the appearance of his double heat treated Springfield, and he asked:

What do you think? Can I still get a nice looking rifle out of this?

My answer was: "Yes, I really do think you can make a very nice rifle out of this . In fact it is always possible to make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear" if you want to spend enough money. I think you have a very good basis for a custom rifle here but it is only a diamond in the rough so to speak at the present time. I am sure it is possible to turn it into a rifle that will be a first class custom with the proper effort. I never figure to get a real bargain when I have one of these military actions redone, it's the heritage and history I am most concerned with. Every rifle I own made from one cost more than most factory rifles would, but they are done the way I want them done. That is worth a fistful of dollars to me."

I am very happy for the proud owner and the work that has been done is the type that proves the craftsman is someone who takes great pride in their work and can indeed turn a "Sows ear into a silk purse". I'm sure the owner is anxious to have this rifle done, but when the remaining craftsman finish their part he will have a rifle that both his sons and he will enjoy and treasure the rest of their life. Trust me, it will be worth the wait.

Very tastefully done, I like the way the standout Springfield characteristics were left intact.

I too would be interested in hearing about some of the stock details.

All I get in place of the pictures for this post is a row of small white boxes with a red X inside. I also get the same thing for the post showing the checkering. I also get the same thing on other boards. I do occasionaly get some pictures on this and other boards, so I am guessing it has something to do with the way the pictures are posted. Is there something in the set-up of my computer? I asked one of the computer guys here at work and he didn't know what the problem is either. Any help would be appreciated, sure would like to see the metalwork, checkering and completed guns that get posted here.

This might be a dumb question, but what is Image Station? As is probably apparent, I know little about computers.

I'm not signed up for "image Station" However I thought the pictures in question were on hunt101. I can't even get www.hunt101.com to work. I get a page not found.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Specialist- All I see is a white square with a red X in it. I'm at work now, and the company porn block won't let me go to photobucket.com. However, I still get the red X with some pictures when I use my computer at home.

I put in a small pic. It seems right with that metal work.

I can see the lake picture. I can also see pictures posted on Image Station. It appears to be only Hunt101 I'm having trouble with. I can't get hunt101 to open period. Much less see a picture posted on it.

Right clicking and pasting the address worked, at least on my computer at home. I will try the same on my work computer tomorrow. I am able to see the first-class metalwork,the lake, and the checkering on the other post.

Those who can't get pics, sometimes my computer does the same thing. Try right-clicking on the red-x and going to properties, in properties highlight the address and copy it, then paste it in your browser address bar. That usually works for me.
