300 Vs 375 H&H base diameter?
Are these the same case? For some reason I don't have that information in my book.
Will a 300 H&H fit in a 30-06 lenght action or do I need a magnum action. I figured the base is different but not sure on the lenght.

300 H&H is the same case length as 375 H&H or 300 Weatherby. You need a 300 Win Mag to use a 30-06 length magazine.

The 300 H&H and the 375 H&H, same, same. Which 30-06 action are you wanting to use?

I was kicking around the idea of a larger bore rifle than I have now which consists of 6.5 X 55, & 7 X 57 and 30-06. I have a brand new Zastava 30-06 action in the white I though of building something on. But if I need a larger action I will keep on looking.
I guess the other choice is a 375 Ruger but I know nothing about them other than what has been written here as well as in the Guns magazines and that information (magazines) is so one sided. Roll Eyes

That is the same action that is used for the various Whitworth, MKX, Daly, Rem 798 375H&H. The box is made longer in the front and metal removed from the feedramp to allow feeding. It works for the 375 no reason it couldn't work for the 300. Open the bolt, mag box and feedramp and off you go.

A 300H&H won't do much more than your 30-06. Like others have said the 300Wmag or 308 Norma works with only a bolt face change. Yes you will get a velocity increase but for my $$ since you have an 06 I would look to something like the 338-06, 35 Whelen or 9.3x62.

I've straightened out a few 375 Rugers and that seems to be a pretty potent round and would work great in your 30-06 length action, but besides the bolt face/extractor/follower thing, you would need to open the area just below the feed rails in order to house the larger case. No big deal.

The 375 Epstein (375/338) would be another good choice for that action if you don't mind a belted case. Same-o on the mag well mods.

Hey Westpac,
I've never seen a 375 Epstien. I've always called the 375/338 as the 375 Chatfield/Taylor. My data gives the Epstien case length as 2.595" Is that correct? If so what brass did they start with did they shorten a 375H&H?

I've got the article somewhere close by, I'll dust it off and see what it says.
