Dem-Bart Checkering Heads
Does anyone have a line on any Dem-Bart checkering heads? I need some R-9 and 4-20 cutters but can't find any in the USA?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tyler

He makes em in a small shop about 20 miles from me. Been there a few times. Nice guy, but a real low volume one man show. I havent dropped by in a few years, but my friend did recently and picked up some cutters. If nobody else chimes in with a mail order source shoot me a pm and maybe i can do you a favor...

I had the very same problem.....a very knowledgeable gentleman (Jim Kobe0 advised me to get Ullman.....

I did and darn glad I did....they are a great tool and I won't go back again.....Mr Dem Bart needs to hire some help it seems.

I'm teaching a checkering class on line and DEM-Bart cutters have been short supply. I live a few miles north of them so I stop by. He's out of 18,20,22 lines per inch. But he says that he will have some available by the end of this month. He has them made, but they needed heat treatment.

I retired from Aerojet Rocketdyne last April. Right now I'm having a new shop built. I have enough raw materials that I'm just go to build whatever I want. I've got some time right now and I was on Facebook on the "Good Wood" site and they had a lot of custom rifle, but most weren't checkered. So I decided to teach a short course on the process.

My apologies if this has already been covered but is this class you're teaching available to watch, if so where and how can I access it please?

You just need to go to Face Book, on the left side in blue is "Groups" click on that and find "Good Wood". You will have to ask to join, but that no big deal. The class is live at 6pm Pacific time on Saturday night's.

Is Gunline a viable alternative? I second the Michael Ullman recommendation, his products are excellent.

I'll look at them and see if they'll work. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Steve Earle Products has started making checkering cutters. I have not used them but everything else I've got from him is first rate.

Mark, I remember a couple of guys who did some custom gun building seminars on AOL. Seemed like only yesterday.

Peter Dyson has them. It will take a couple of weeks to get them via snail mail though.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

They were much too course to do fine checkering.....Dem Bart is a far finer tool.....but the ULLman's tools are carbide and they actually have them in stock....you can actually get them. They too are a fine pitched tool.

Years back I made the checkering tools for Herters.....a very crude tool and extremely course.....I loved the Dem Barts when I first tried them. The gunline tools remind me of those old Herter's tools.....you know....the model perfect tools..... thumbdown

I am trying checkering tools from Master Carver. I like them so far but I have just started and am only a hobby guy.
