SydneyMauser action
I have a mauser 98 action with a very sloppy bolt--it doesn t affect the function but
is it possible to reduce the slop??
Thanks Sydney

dpcdAge old question; Mausers have looser bolts than other actions due to the design, but they can be tightened up by heating and swaging the receiver bridge top nwards toward the center; NOT just downward. That is where the bolt guide rib recess is.
Or, cut it in half, on top, swage it down/in, and weld it back together. Personally, I don't bother; what they are, they are.

TexasJohnI have seen British Sporters with two threaded plugs at the rear on either side of the cocking piece grove that remove the bolt slop. They look fine and do the job.

nopride2If it functions, don't worry about it. It's not worth the cost.

AtkinsonA battle rifle and a Dangerous game rifle have a lot in common, they don't jam when dirty or muddy, Paul Mauser covered all the bases, you cannot improve a Mauser all you can do is make it pretty and scope friendly..

This is my take on it. If it doesn't bind and you can rack it as fast as you can without any hiccups, then it is perfect.
I have 5 Kimber 8400 rifles, ALL OF THEM bind when racking the bolt fast, this is not a good thing.
NONE of my Mauser '98's bind in any way shape or form.
I would leave it as is and not worry yourself over trivial matters.
Cheers.
