Orberndorf kurtz action-advice!!help
I acquired a kurtz action a number of years ago with a vision of making a custom express rifle of English style in 250 Savage. The action is in fine shape other than the high gloss blue and the biggie-dovetaed front receiver ring!!!! I have two choices, use the dovetail for claw mounts or have the dovetail tig filled and custom double square bridges made for it. Ithink the expense is a wash either way. The 250 Savage shouldn't stress the action even with the dove in the front ring. What are the pros/cons?????

jens poulsen..If you have an original Kurz-action..Save no expenses...do it all the way

.
..squarebridge the front ring, so the dovetail will not show. Have it done by the best gunmaker only..

You know how much I love those Kurtz actions. Just send it to me and I'll build it up.

J.D.SteeleI would first try to find some claw mounts that will fitt the dovetail closely enough to work.

Toomany ToolsI have one of these fine old actions as well (1923), and it also had the dovetail cut, but it doesn't now. I've been working on it off and on, mostly off, for about 5 years. I'll be eventually doing double square bridges on mine as I believe it will make the best use. I don't particularly like the claw mounts, and unless I was interested in the QD-feature to occasionally use iron sights, I wouldn't use them. My rifle will have a more modern look and will not have iron sights.

heavenknowsI would follow J.D.Steele.
If not, welding and rebuilding the round receiver is the second best solution.
I suggest you have the action with thumbcut.
Because there never was a double square bridge with the thumbcut in the left receiver wall you are closer to the original when restoring the round front receiver ring.
