kayakerBedding a CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62
Hi all,
I am thinking of bedding my CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62. The rifle has 4 contact areas with the stock:
1. Rear tang area/screw
2. Recoil lug and front action screw area
3. Under barrel recoil lug (a lug dovetailed into the barrel about mid-way along the barrel)
4. Muzzle cap area
Has anyone ever bedded a rifle like this? I was thinking that I would do the action in the ‘normal’ way (recoil lug area and tang) and then bed just behind the under-barrel recoil lug, leaving the rest of barrel free floating.
What about the muzzle cap area?
I am not keen to full length bed the whole barrel.
Thoughts?
PS the rifle shoots well, so perhaps I should just not tinker but I am thinking of making the make the stock more impervious to moisture…maybe just better oil sealing?

dpcdIf it shoots well now, just seal the inside with good modern sealer/finish. I have bedded them; like you say; not full barrel bedding.

Bill/OregonI had southern Oregon gunsmith Kevin Wyatt smooth the rails and bed the action on my CZ in 9,3X62 before I took it to Namibia in 2007. Mostly just "insurance" for peace of mind. I'll bet Tom's suggestion of sealing it is more than enough.
