wapiti22WATER DAMAGED STOCK
I'm restoring a 1953 Winchester Model 70. The rifle sat on a damp basement floor for a while. The metal butt plate was rusted heavily and there are some black streaks in the wood around the butt plate. The wood is still sound enough to use but how do I get rid of the black streaks. I tried applying bleach with no luck.

BaxterBDid you try the search? As I remmebr there was a thread somewhere about a guy re-doing a seriously water-damaged stock. It was amazing what he was able to do. Not sure what forum but try searching and I bet you'll find it, was very good.

Ramrod340, I read your entire link to the repair, although many years later, you are an artist! Much patience and perseverance restored a really bad situation. Congratulations, you earned it! Merry Christmas.
Also thank you for the lesson. I learned much from your experience.

Thought it might have been my mess you were thinking about.
Thanks olcrip. It turned out better than I had hoped for. What I learned is best way to fix it is not let it happen in the first place.

Happy Holidays to all!
