308SakoHelp! Ruger #1 mainspring Oops
Well in the process of assembling the action well I slipped; and the mainspring and retainer sailed across the garage. That's the good news. The bad news is I actually found the parts without too much difficulty. Putting the asssembly back together is going to require a trick I don't know.
Help!

Take your spring strut and clamp it in your drill press vise vertically. Slip the spring over it with washer on top. Adjust the fingers of your drill press chuck to fit the washer yet allow some room for a capture pin to go between the jaws. Compress the whole assembly until you can slip a capture pin in the corresponding hole in the strut. Set the assembly in the rifle and open the finger lever to open position and remove the pin.
If you dont have a drill press you can accomplish the same thing by using your bench vise with an improvised sleeve to take the place of the drill press vise.

StonewallTake a Sako-Mauser rear guard screw bushing and cut two short slots in one end to clear that pin .
I use my Bonanza press to depress the works .Then I am able to insert the correct sized pin or punch to hold it until I put this assembly back into the rifle .

308SakoGentlemen, Thank you for the help. Not having the drill press I thought that a slotted sleeve would be the only way. God bless the wife who suggested the loading press! Thought I still have not accomplished the task, I know it will be possible.
Thanks once again.

308SakoOnce the tube was fitted... 30 seconds for the easy re assembly.
The RCBS large decapping pins are perfect.
