Winchester model 43
A friend of mine recently came into a couple of winchester model 43's. One is in 218 Bee and the other is a 22K hornet. I have not seen the rifles but am told they are in excellent condition. Are they any good for varmints, and what would they be worth? I don't know anything about them. Thanks..btw they are for sale.

I have seen a couple recently in gun shops selling for 400+. Looks to me like they would make nice little varmint rifles.

Hey Carnivore, Nice rifles indeed.

If your barrel is an original Winchester, you might find that it was made for the 0.223" diameter bullets instead of the newer 0.224" diameter bullets.

The good news is that there are plenty of 0.223" bullets still being made. Also, you might find that the rifle will shoot the 0.224" bullets just fine, but my M43s always liked the smaller ones the best.

Standard Pistol primers worked well, as long as the pressure is held down to the appropriate level the case was designed for.

Never got to try "Lil'Gun" powder in mine, but I hear from reliable sources that it is the best powder ever made for Hornets.

Any idea what the asking price for the Hornet might be?

I'm thinking he wants around 500 plus or minus. If you are interested just e-mail me and I'll give you the number and name etc.
