Okay, here is one for all the stockmaker, M70 gurus. I have a pre 64, late 50's production 300 H&H. This is a put together gun. The original barrel was rechambered to 300 Wby. I found a nice pre war barrel and had it fitted, so as for collectors value it is not much. The original stock had been slightly reshaped and refinished, so what I have is a nice shooter. Now the question: I was able to pick up a refinished, repaired Supergrade stock. The problem is that it is inletted for the "cloverleaf" tang (for lack of better descrption). Is is possible to inlet the latter M70 action into that stock. I realize there may be some gaps or need to shim an area, but since this is a shooter and will have no collectors value, can this be done? By the way, the reapair to the stock was replacing the approx. 2" that was cut off the butt to shorten length of pull. The repair is great, but very obvious. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You should be able to inlet the later rifle into the pre-war stock.

I believe you should be able to "open up" the cloverleaf stock to allow the tang of a later version Model 70 to be inletted without gaps.

I'm doing a similar thing for Idared. In this case he had the latter Model 70 tang reshaped to cloverleaf. I used a pre-war Supergrade stock as a pattern and had this stock duplicated. My guess is the contour of the latter version tang would allow you to do what you suggested above.

Thanks to everyone for all the quick answers...and Jim...I had everything ready to package it up and send it to you, but then realized didn't have your address...and then I misplaced all my packing materials, so I guess I will just have to keep it!
