vapodogweatherby vanguard threads
I want to fit a new barrel to a Weatherby vanguard.
Can anyone tell me if the threads are metric or English standard

dpcdAren't those just Howas? If so, they are metric 1.5mm x 26 OD. But if you have the action you should measure it and not rely on any other information no matter where it comes from.

jplThey are standard as far as nearly all manufacturing on this planet: metric.

dpcdWhat? Even Mauser threads are not metric.

Toomany ToolsEvery one I’ve ever done was a Howa with metric threads just as Tom has described.

Yes....they are Howas…..but possibly still not metric...
I don't have the action yet but will certainly measure them when I get the action.
My lathe don't thread metric but if it does, I don't know how to set it to do so. I might have to hire some to doit for me.

dpcdI should have added, as John said, all the Howas I have done are metric and the barrels are torqued on tighter than lug nuts on a Kenworth. Crazy tight.
What kind of lathe do you have. On mine I have to reverse one little gear to cut metric. And remember to move it back or that would be bad for the next barrel.

youngoutdoorsMy Weatherby Vanguard is metric and the barrel was tight but not overly tight. You can look up the dimension in Rods (speerchucker) info at the begining of the gunsmithing forum. 1/4 the way down on page 4. One of the stiffer actions out there in my opinion and a great one to build on.
