Re: Polishing a Rem 700 ADL Action
Kory, Do yourself a favor and instead of trying to buff off bluing find a local machine shop with a bead blaster. Bead Blasters work much quicker and get the bluing out of lettering without ruining it like a buffer can. Bead Blasting also does an excellent job of showing up machining marks and scratches that need to be taken out. A method that has worked well for prepping prior to rust bluing is to sand the old finish off with 220grit 3M gold automotive paper and then bead blast it to get the finish out of the lettering and show scratches for the following grades of paper and polish........DJ

If the action is blued you can dip it in 3%Muriatic acid to remove the blue. After dipping rinse with cold water and spray down with WD-40 or some other similar product. Muriatic acid is sold wherever masonary supplies are sold.

Thanks, Eddie. I saw a product at a local gun store from Birchwood Casey that was a "blue & rust remover". I suspect it was just Muriatic Acid too.

Thanks,
Kory
