M98 MAG BOX GAP
What is the standard gap between the top of the mag box and bottom of the receiver on an M98 Mauser?

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

One mm is .039 inches; you don't want them to touch; that is a bad thing.

I think if there ever was a real measurement, it probably died with Paul Mauser. The rule of thumb I have always went by is as follows: "If the receiver and the mag box touch, you can't theoretically tighten the stock screws and have both parts seat into the bedding properly. To far apart and the follower will catch in the groove between the two."

So the exact distance is officially: "As little as possible while still allowing a bit for crush over time."

So, 1mm. lol

I generally don't measure, but ensure that there is a gap when the front screw is cinched down. I then ensure that the gap remains even from front to rear by making a pillar for the rear screw of an appropriate length.
