KOA wood stock
A freind has a blank of very nice koa wood from Hawaii. He is looking for someone to carve a stock. He would prefer someone with a machine to keep costs down a bit. I had thought about Boyds but he is having a hard time contacting them. Any ideas are welcome.

I have used Donnie Gemmes at Show-Me Gunstocks for rifle and shotgun. His turnaround is about 10 days and his prices are incredibly reasonable.

We have a duplicator, use it mostly for our custom rifles, but do occasionally turn stocks for others. We have a couple of classic sporter patterns and Oberndorf style, thumbhole (right and left hand), a few others.
Be glad to cut your wood for $150 to 95%.

I'm not familiar with most stock makers .

has anyone ever dealt with this fella ?.

http://www.kustombygeorge.com/

There is somebody up around Jim Kobe who is also very reasonable at duplication work .

I like Jim as he is a very capable smith himself , I don't know if he does stock work or not ?.

Also some time back James Anderson ( Gun maker ) built his own duplicator , as did someone down in Texas I believe also built a duplicator .

Ask Butchlambert or Craftsman I bet they know who it is .

This guy does NICE Checkering , I saw a couple of High dollar custom rifles he did and they were impressive ! , to me any way .

I've seen Gun Makers work and it's top notch !.

A machine duplicator would save cost and time .

Hope this helps .

If you really want a first class duplication, about as smooth as you can get, have it done by John Vest in Redmond, OR He's not cheap, but it's about the best around

Hmm, their firsts are nothing to write home about. Me, I think I'd try Walter rather than trust Richards with a stick of my wood.

do the Koa right. it is hard to come by in acceptable blanks and plants and really needs to be treated right. I have one waiting on me and nature. It is 3 inches thick by 8 wide and 36 long. Full curly and straight grained from natural grown wood......when will that happen again?
