Wildlife ArtistArgentine 1909 to .404 Jeffery
Hello
I know it would most likely be a pain but would it be ok to rebuild this action for a .404 Jeffery. The only reason I would like to use a Argentine 1909 action is I really like them. I collect original condition rifles and will not for any reason customize them but you can still find some that have been modified beyond being collectable.
I would assume that the magizine and feeding would be major concerns but how much of I would need to remove the feed ramp area. I cannot find what the maximum case and bullet length for the .404 cartridge is.
Thanks very much for your help
Steve

22WRFDavid Miller built many custom .404s on 1909 actions. There is no doubt you will definitely have to use new bottom metal.

John in SCHi Steve,
If you build a .404,
1. I want to see it!
2. I think you'll become a reloader

You can do a single shot with just a $12.00 follower and than if you lkie it spend the money on bottom metal and magazine. I have a Mauser 358X404 IMP single shot and I love it. You might think about getting the action carborized and rehardened.

lawndartThe Blackburns are working on a batch of 404J bottom metal for Mauser 98's right now. Price is ~ $325.00 - $345.00 ( I don't remember right now).

Wildlife ArtistHi John
How have you been doing! We really enjoyed meeting you and I hope we can share some more BBQ. I wish we could have had more time to talk about your ele.
If I'm able to build it you can shoot it all you want.
There are some tuskless ele hunts in Zimbabwe that are very reasonable price and thats what me got to thinking about building one.It would be fun to try it out on some of them.

lawndartHi Kev,
I shipped your package on Thursday.
I ordered the heat treating information, and will copy that for you along with the case hardening information.
Wildlife Artist,
Address your e-mail enquiry to Maggie. She handles that end of thing for Ted (Blackburn's) machining operation.
