What's your thoughts on this? I have a chance to pick one up cheap. Was this safe to do with the original military barrel? It doesn't look to be set back any just reamed out. He says it was done over 50 years ago. It'd be a good price for the shooter, but not good enough for a donor action. It was done on a winchester.

Yes....I wouldn't hesitate to buy a .300 H&H on a Winchester 1917 enfield with an original barrel as long as the work was done well.

I have lost count of the number of M1917's I've converted to 300 Win mags over the years. H&H conversions were very popular back then as well. As long as the guy who did the work didn't over cut the bolt face and run the reamer too deep, you should be fine.

Thanks guys, a 1917 barrel just looks to taper too quickly not giving much meat in the chamber area. But I keep forgetting they are alot bigger diameter barrels than most to begin with. Now I'll just have to see if he'll take my offer.
