Odd Mauser safety question
Is there a replacement safety for a 98 that works backwards, a la Brno Zkk series rifles.

I have to ask why anyone would want such a thing; those are just wrong. Forward is fire.

I've had a couple clients that actually LIKE them ?? They claim to use a SAA mindset..Cock to fire.

It’s because I have 9 zkk’s and love them. Just trying to keep things similar as I also have several Mauser’s.

Yes, Mr Craig; it is wrong because I say so.
Forward is fire. It is intuitive. There is a reason 90% of rifles work that way. Other designs, are misguided. I work on a lot of ZKKS and always throw that crap away and install a proper one.

Hee Hee Tom, your incorrigible! I don't personally have strong ideas either way..But...plenty of rifles require one to pull the "safety" back wards. The hammer on a few million lever guns is..of course, the safety.

I previously mentioned the SAA..One can also keep in mind the older (and sometimes) newer doubles and single shots...There is even some 22' out there you have to pull back the cocking knob.

I'd bet a Bic Mac that you never tried to push the hammer forward on any of those arms I mention..... because of some "muscle memory"

As you said in the 91 Argentine thread regarding COC, "but these Americans are too lazy, to learn to manipulate it."

If the shoe fits...

Yes. Exactly.

You will also learn that rifle suppressors are stupid because he says "I spent many years on main battle tank shooting range and loud noise is part of this".

You will also learn that creating subsonic loads for special hunting purposes is also stupid because ... I don't remember that bullshit why.

It is just dpcd at it's purest form killpc

Only one bolt action rifle has a hammer; not the same as lever actions at all. And not too many guys shoot them today. And a safety is not the same as cocking a hammer; no need to justify it. It's a terrible design.
Now you guys are finally catching on about what is right and what isn't.
Glad you all remember what I said years ago too! Still true today.
Aren't opposing ideas allowed any more? I guess not.
And no, I don't want to learn to use a ZKK. It isn't better.
The fact is that the designers of the ZKKs deviated from the 98 Mauser so much as to make everything they did worse. Safety is an abomination of over complicated parts.
Jiri; as I said before; where I hunt we have no need for suppressors or light loads; easy to understand.
Please, don't send me any more hate PMs. You know who you are.

JHC...why does evey comment degrade into a fight in a phone booth? I haven't seen or remember anything of interest posted by a couple guys on this thread....

Deja Vu and keep baning your head...It will fell better when you stop Semper Fi!

I think that if you are a hunter all your rifles safeties should work the same!

Impossible buttt Ideal.

Though Brno/CZ have made good actions for elephant rifles, I'd stay away from them because of that safety. Even the safeties on their .22RFs are dodgy IMHO - I'm yet to try one that works well enough to bother with.

OSA. YES. Both american hunting rifles and Myers Arms make this style of safety for the ZKK.

3 position style

One will only ship to a competent gunsmith. Not sure of the other one.

Unfortunately, that is a traditional model, 70 style safety where forward is off. I specifically want backwards is off.

A ZG47 safety will do the job.

I never sent you any PMs.

And for others, here is "friendly" opinion why not to use silencers:

Well, all my Mauser's still have the "flag" safety, just like my 03 and 03A3 Springfields....so I guess I have no dog in this fight.... Big Grin

I have a 146 Husqy 9,3x57 that has the flag safety and a push forward safe/trigger, both work, its darn scarce apparently and well done apparently and many years old, anyone seen such??

So, this safety will fit a standard Mauser?

Yes the ZG47 safety assembly will fit onto a M98.

BUT, and this is a BIG but, The cocking piece and firing pin must be machined to fit and work with the ZG47 safety lever.

Which that is done all blind and you only have one shot at it.

Its not for the faint of heart and try to find a take off ZG47 safety
