Nickel Plated Finish's How tough ??
Does a Nickel plated finish give a tougher more weather resistent finish than blueing ?? Do people get it done for it's hard wearing capabilities or just looks ??

Is it as weather resistent as stainless steel for example ??

Thanks.

The finish nowdays is Robar NP3, an electroless nickel with a teflon additive. Very tough, looks like satin bead blast stainless (or "French Gray"), has a built in lubricity and makes the internals of the action slicker than frost on an 'ol buckskin fir log way up in the Elk High Country. A good finish for humid and salt water environments, popular for Alaska rifles.

A good combination is black Robar Roguard on the externals and Robar NP3 for the internals.

Thanks John,

I worked out I could get a blued Marlin Guide Gun in 45/70 and have it Nickel Plated and have some change over buying a stainless guide gun. Just wondering if it will give some properties of stainless seems as if it does.
