How easy to knock off scope?

I was at the range yesterday and propped my gun up against the truck to let the barrel cool.(mistake)I got into the truck to get something and it caused the rifle to fall to the ground. Not very hard, and onto relatively soft ground. After cleaning the barrel and action I resumed my shooting activities only to realize that I was shooting 6" to the right. I have a Leuplod scope with leupold rings and bases which are tight! My stock is from HS precision and has an aluminium bedding block.WHATS GOING ON?

Frasier, The scopes are built to take recoil and the internal parts are designed to do this but the exterior will take a little abuse but it takes such a little amount to move a group 6in. a few hundredths of an inch...I have seen the front "foot" of the turn in mount break and with the rear tight you could not tell it was hurt..also the rear windage screws can be holding the mount but the cut recesses in the foot of the base can be warped and you can's see it untill you take the ring off and check the rear mount foot aganist a "straight edge" check these and if you don't find anything and the groups are fine just moved, then resight the scope and just count it a learning lesson..good luck and good shooting!!!

You may have bumped your rings or mount out of alignment. It only would take 0.006" to move you that far at 100.

Frasier/ I went back and just realized that you wrote that you cleaned the action...if you took the gun apart and took the action from the stock and replaced and didn't torque the action bolts or at least get them even the group will move from normal "zero" you asked about the scope and I forgot about the stock bolts...mine have the allen/hex head bolts and I tightened the bolts with the long end of the wrench and my groups moved nearly as much as yours did and like to drove me crazy untill I checked with Remington and saw a post where someone else had had the same problem...use the short end of a allen wrench to turn the bolts hand tight or 55 INCH lbs...some go to 65 INCH lbs for .308 and heavier calibers again...good luck and good shooting!!!!

Its a whole lot easier than some think to knock a scope off zero...Just try whacking it with the palm of your hand on the obj. lens.....

The best scopes, for dependability are the 20 MM obj. scopes such as the Leupold 2.5X compact, 1x4, and 1.5x5....Thats why you see them on most DGR rifles...Thoes are the scopes I use on all my big game hunting rifles.

I have never seen an ocassion where a more powerfull scope than 4X or even 2.5X would have saved a miss or that I couldn't get a clear sight picture of a 200 Lb. deer or 900 lb. elk.....
