Re: patch stuck in barrel
I would reccomend a small wooden dowel inserted from the breach and then gently tap it on through with gentle taps from a hammer on the end of the dowel. Tap it too hard and you will have more than a patch stuck in the bore. A brazing rod would also work well I would think. Good luck!!!

Soak it with ATF and gently tap it out with a close fitting wood dowel. Probably no dowel available so use your cleaning rod without the jag.

Kenny Jarrett recommends a little lighter fluid squirted in help things, and then burning the patch.

This tidbit was part of a seminar he gave at the SCI Convention last January.

Grape; In my infinite wisdom I thought that if i run a string down the barrel, half hitch a patch in the middle and pull back and forth it would work fine . Which it did till I used a dry patch.Which only went about 4" and the string broke and I started typing HELP on Accurate Reloading .com.
I bought the gun used and the previous owner is shipping the cleaning rod this coming week. I wanted to shoot it and thought a cleaning was in order and I thought the 35# dacron fishing line would be fine. It was until I put 36# on it.
Trust me I did a few searches before making the post, i was kind of hoping i could find a nice little hint with the search function, then nobody would be able to sit at their computer and snicker at my dumb mistake. But not to be!

cmbb, the proper way to ask this question, is to refer to this question as a problem that a buddy has, not you. He has no internet, you are just trying to help him out.
Good luck with getting the patch unstuck

I have done it myself... A couple of times..
Now I have bought proper cleaning equipment, and pathes that really fit. Don`t know about you, but earlier I think I used to big pathes..

Why wouldn't a bore brush on a cleaning rod grab it?

"Try compressed air from the breach end "

A friend ( honest, I don't have a .17 ) managed to do the same thing, 120 LBS. from the compressor wouldn't shift it.

But 300 bar. from a diveing bottle blew it straight out.
Lucky I came along, he was just about to try shoot it out.

Gentlemen; I have a cotton patch stuck about 4" in from the crown. Just a patch, no jag. It is a 17 cal bolt action. Any suggestions? I am thinking a trip to the gunsmith is in order. Dont even ask how it got there. Go easy on me!

Dont feel bad. There are 2 types of people on this forum: those who have have brain cramp moments and those who lie about it. We have all had our moments. Myself excluded of course!!!

Were you able to remove the patch yet?
