Rick,

Those aren't two B's. It is a B and a U, in a Germanic font that was used between the World Wars. Your rifle may just as easily have started life in the Mauser commercial facility. It may have been a special order, or possibly has had the stippling removed for one reason or another.

Someone with more data than myself might be able to track down your serial number to obtain more info on it.

79,000 BU falls into the 1912 time frame. The last three numbers may or may not help but a picture would.

I don't know that a picture would help you much. As I said, the stock has been changed and the original sights removed. My grandfather had put a peep on it, but then my father put bases and a scope on it.

If you really think it would help, I could try to find my way around a digital camera and send one to someone (each time I try to register on a picture sight something goes wrong).

You can send a picture to mjpetrov@acsalaska.net, I would like to see the bolt knob and the set triggers. If you care to share the serial number as well I can look and see if anything close might tell us something.
