Dago RedMatching barrel contours
Let's say a person has a gorgeous piece of wood perfectly inletted, but don't care for the caliber. How hard is it to get a barrel contour copied to a different blank?
Second question, from 270 to 338, too large a jump? maybe too much meat I am thinking and stock would have to be re-inletted through the barrel area. hmmm..

billhilly66You didn't say what your barrel profile was so I can't answer as to the caliber change. You can however, get a barrel contoured to match what you have fairly easy. I had the same situation you describe with a Mauser I sent a 6.5 barrel to Pac Nor and they did an excellent job of duplicating it in 7mm. I believe most barrel makers can do this for you.

srtMost of the major barrel manufacturers will duplicate a specific taper for an addtional fee, but sometimes they match their standard contours.

N E 450 No2I think there is a barrel company in Raton NM that will do it too. If I remember it is K&P.
Stopped by to see them one time, they were very nice.

rootbeerI'd think with CNC technology that just about any contour could be duplicated. The question is: How do you find the company that does it?

schromfKrieger and Lothar Walther will match profiles.
There is a small setup charge. What you need to do is sit down with your mikes and draw up what you want. Whoever you talk to.
Remember several of these manufacturers are all dialed up on their CNC's for a varitey of proflies. I would ask if they had your desired profile on file. Original Model 70's, Holland and Holland, and a large selection of factory profiles are usually available if you ask. Nobody has every profile on file though, you might need to call around if you have something odd.
Your question on 270 to 338 depends on your existing profile if its a #1 I think your out of luck. Krieger shows a #2 as min for the .338 bore in CM, and #3 in SS. All of the the barrel makers are going to be working to similar dimensions, and min bore profiles.
