I need a un-altered, standard, mod. 98 extractor to replace the one Bubba "fixed" to slide over the case rim. It slides over just fine but now won't grip/extract the case. Would prefer an origional to a blank from Brownell's. Thank you.

If not too bad "bubba'b", it could probably be made to fit with a little work.

Jim...I thought about that but when he decreased the angle of the bevel with a dremel tool the edge was moved back so far it now barely touches the case rim. I considered removing a little metal from the extractor surfaces that ride on the bolt to move it in to contact the case rim but the locking lugs are almost touching the underside of the extractor now. I guess there's nothing to loose by trying though.

I have a few new 1909 ones. They are a little different than 8mm ones due to the 7.65 case size. Other than that GPC usually has them.

FYI, I think all the new ones they have are argentine. So they might not be a drop-in if they were for the 7.65 cartridge.

Don...I asked for a 98 Mauser extractor (not a 1891) so I hope they know the difference. However, according to my references, the rim dia. of the 7.65mm is only 1 thou. larger and the extractor groove only 4 thou. shallower than the 8x57mm. Sure seems like either one would work if all the other dimensions are ok. Guess I'll find out in a few days.

The 1909 mauser extractors I have don't hold the case tight enough on a -06 without modification. Hopefully you'll have better luck. I wonder how they dealt with it when they rearsonally them to 30-06. All mine came from Century so maybe they're different. Good luck.

I had the same problem with an '09 action that I rebarreled to 257 Roberts. The '09 extractor is just different enough that it doesn't work very well with cases other than the original 7.65x54. I replaced it with a std '98 extractor.

Update....Received the extractor from TGP and finally got time to install it. It fits and functions perfectly although a little stiffer than the old one since the spring is new. CRF works fine and now the extractor holds the case head firmly and will only chamber rounds fed from the magazine.

Great to hear, I never ordered any new argentine ones from them because of my past experiences with 1909 extractors. I'll have to give them a try.
