London proof marks. What chambering?
Guys

Can any one help me identify the chambering of a barreled action with the following London proof marks:

.30    2.85 18.5 tons

The London marks are pre 1989 I am told, so I'm thinking 300 H&H or Win Mag or 30 06. It is a Mauser 98 action.

Thanks very much

I believe that would be a .300 H&H Mag., or as they used to call it, Holland's Super .30.

The case for that round is 2.85 inches in length, and the Kynoch standard loading with a 180 grain bullet at 2,700 fps has always been rated at 18.5 tons per square inch of pressure.

Probably a good idea to do a chamber cast, however, to be certain.

30 is for 30 Caliber

2.85 is for 2.85" case length (300 H&H)

18.5 tons was the proof load.

Now I have a question. How do the Brits masrk a 300 Weatherby?

With the mark of shame.
