Mexican 36 rebarrel
I have a mexican 36 that I want to barrel in 6.5 swede , has anyone done this ? My main concern is feeding ,have ran some thru action only and seems to work ok, except rim doesn't slip under extractor ,and not a lot of room lengthwise in magazine box. I don't plan on shooting anything larger than 140 grain, I like 120"s, what twist would be optimum?

No matter where you go or what you do there you are! Yes tis true and tis pity but pity tis, tis true.

A close friend rebarreled a 1910 with a Swede barrel, feeds fine w/o any other alterations.

Those '36 Mexican actions are junk & are not safe to re-barrel.

If you send it to me I will see to it that it is properly disposed of so that nobody gets hurt by an exploding action.

I'll even pat the shipping. Wink

Since the '36 Mexican is the same length as the Swedeish Mauser action, I think the 6.5X55 would be a perfect fit.

SAAMI OAL is 3.150" & the case taper is similar to the Xx57 family of cartridges so feeding shouldn't be an issue.

The rim diameter is only .006" larger than the above. You might get by W/just working the extractor a bit.

1 in 9" twist is said to work for up to 140gr (lead core) bullets depending on bullet construction.

I am planning on putting a 1 in 9" twist ER Shaw bbl on a VZ500 intermediate length LR M98 action.

It is the same length as your '36 Mexi I believe.

8 1/2" twist should work great.

I was fantisizing about finding a '36 Mexi & using a good swede barrel take off to do a budget build.

My VZ500 will just have to do as I doubt that I will run across a '36 up here on the tundra.

Same length, just the little bit of added weight from the large ring.

I bought the last discontinued #2 contour ER Shaw barrel blank in .264.

I have my eye on a bargain black walnut Oberndorf style stock that is on sale.

I hope to have around $600-$650 in the complete build.
