Does anyone know if magazines from Remington's 742 will work in 760 and/or 7600 rifles. There are some for sale in the classified forum, and I might buy 'em if they'll work.

They way I understand it is that they are interchangeable, however a 760 mag won't hold the bolt open on a 742. (Little release lever isn't there). Going in your direction should work fine.

Be aware, not all magazines are interchangeable. I have an early model 760 and wanted an extra mag. Not only would the 7600 mag. not fit, neither would some of the ones made for later model 760s. I live near Gun Parts and went to them and a fellow explained that not all the mag for the pump guns fit. He found another early model mag in good condition and it worked.

The 742 mag will have a hold open lip on the follower. This will keep you from closing the bolt with an empty mag in. Check to see if it will work,if you can.
