G-33/40 ?s
I have a chance to buy an interesting rifle.
It is an 8X60, chambering and built on a G-33/40.
Chances are I would rebarrel to 7X57.
I know these actions are desirable and rare, but in practicle terms , is it much better than say a VZ 24?.
The reason I ask is I know of 2 VZ 24s that are drilled and tapped , for 200.00 give or take a little.
The G-33/40 with a stock and ready to rebarrel, will be 1150.00 ?
thanks ...tj3006

Thomas; JMHO but in practicle terms I would say no. In desirability I would vote for the 33/40 and leave it alone, nothing wrong with the 8mm. Consider the cost of making a rifle out of the 24, it can easily be more than the 33, not intending to demean the 24 I'm in the process of building a rifle on one myself. --- John303.

There's really no practical differnce between the G33/40 and a comparable VZ-24. But if you can buy a complete rifle in good shape on a G33/40 for $1150 that's could be a very good deal. The actions alone today are sold for around $600 so $550 for a barrel, stock and whatever other features are already there could be a very good deal.

The 8X60 is a good round. You can make cases simply from 30/'06 brass, just trim 3mm, & resizze in a die from RCBS or others. I would keep the original chambering. Or rechamber to 8mm/'06.

Thanks for the GB link fla3006! Just sent him a very fair trade offer. Now I wait.

Looks like a nice one Doug. The bolt even matches. Hope you get it.

I would have to have some hi res pics of bolt handle and stock #s plus any markings. There are very few that are true all matching. From looking at those pics I would guess the first two numbers on the bolt could be suspect.
