Machine Barrel or Receiver?
I'm guessing I already know the answer, but I'll ask the question anyway, there being forum members with waaaay more experience..

I have a 1909 Peruvian Receiver and will be installing a Lothar-Walther barrel.

Receiver is Large Ring, a full 1.41" but small thread. (0.98" x 12 thread)
LW Mauser barrels are Long-chambered, but threaded for standard large ring (1.10" x 12 thread)

I can
A)bore and re-thread the receiver for the larger thread, or
B)I can turn and re-thread the barrel for the smaller thread.

Barrel has way better metallurgy than the receiver, so this would make lead me to believe that option A) is stronger; however, I'm not crazy about the idea if single-pointing internal threads to a shoulder I can't see.
On the other hand, I have to face to get headspace, as well as cut a new shoulder on the barrel(the Peruvian ring is longer)so I might as well turn it and thread it while I have it indicated. This seems to be the simpler avenue.

Question is....what would be the better choice?

Thanks, in advance, for the advice.

I second that. You start internal threads on a Mauser and you open upo a whole new can of worms.

If the receiver ring is longer the barrel shank threads are also longer?

That means you would have to lengthen the barrel threads even if you opened the receiver threads - unless you also cut back the receiver face?

I would just cut new small ring threads on the barrel and be happy.

SR- the ring on the Peruvian is longer- meaning the threaded portion of the barrel is longer than a standard 98, so threads in receiver are longer.

Thanks for the reply guys. Pretty much confirms my gut.
