LesBrooksStockmaker Show and Tell link down
The Stockmaker Show and Tell was taken down after the picture site went down. hunt101.com failed a couple of days ago and without the pictures the isn't much to see. This picture posting site has done this before and we all lost pictures.
I will be looking for another site to host the pictures.
I ask Jeff to stop the link now. I don't know if we can get this started again if hunt101.com comes back on.
I hope that some of you saved the 4 pages of the stock project. I did save these pages.
You will be hearing more about this rifle as the barrel now has a small swell about 6 inches from the end. Krieger wants $405 to make another #2 to replace the original barrel. Shilen #2 1/12 204 is on order and I will post again when I get it shooting again.
The original barrel was a good shooter. The last 4 shots at 200 yds measure .775 and then I ran a patch down the barrel. The only thing I can come up with is a small amount of the patch must have broken off and stayed in the barrel. The next three shots didn't make it to the target. I stopped and went home to clean again and found the swell. This has never happened to me in over 60 yrs of shooting.

BaxterBI can host them if you need. Either short-term until you find a good permanent, or I'll just make a Les folder on my web storage site and we can put them there. Let me know if I can help.

LesBrooksJohn,
Thanks for the offer, but I should have a Shilen barrel here next week. It will probably be late March before I can get this barrel fitted and test fired.
Thanks,
Les

LesBrooksThanks to all that have emailed. I saved the files a couple of days before it went down. I can extract the written parts and pictures that I posted. The reference to making the stock or something related will be place in a file. If anyone wants this info I will have this ready in a few days. Other people that posted will not be included. Some of the written parts are out of order, but included.
I don't know if the original file could be restored and the pictures replaced with another picture link like PhotoBucket.
I hoped that some of you people will get into custom stocks like I did after reading articles in the American Rifleman which were written by some of the best stockmakers from the 1950's-'60's. I always tried to help anyone wanting to know gunsmithing because of one man that I asked questions on stock work and barrel fitting in 1957. He refused to help me and wouldn't let anyone watch him work. That is what caused me to go to gunsmith school.

That's a shame indeed. I am always thankful of people who let me 'behind the curtain.' Sometimes just for the sake of knowing how things work. I have an insatiable curiosity and want to know as much about everything interesting (and not so interesting too) as possible.

gzig5Les, I'm very interested in getting the saved files. I was planning on using that thread as reference for the 30BR mini mauser I am putting together for my daughter.
