Left hand actions
I just got off the phone with the guys at Montana Rifle Company it seems they are in the process of going broke and the left hand stainless action I ordered in June will be shipped to me never!!! So now my question is does anybody make a left hand action suitable to build a 375 H&H? Besides Dakota Arms; nice but damn they cost a lot. Any help is greatly appreciated as I have two rifles I was going to build for left handed shooters. One of the guys will probably be okay with the price difference. The other one won't be so agreeable.

Is this a direct quote from them or something you surmised in the conversation?

Didn't Winchester make the classic LH in 7 Mag, 300 Mag etc?...these are easily converted to 375 H&H length!

This is a quote from Jon the sales guy that works for them. So I pretty much think you can take this one to the bank. Your reply is appreciated do you know of any Model 70 left hand actions that are available, I don't.

Winchester will be back in 2007, and they will probably offer LH actions again.

One can only hope you are correct.

Although I've not done it, I understand that the left-handed Ruger M77 can be made to fit 375 H&H length cartridges.

You can purchase any lefthand W70 originally chambered in 7mm mag, 300 WM, etc. and easily convert it to a 375 length action. Just remove the block in the magazine, mill a little out of the top of the action and redrill and tap a new scope mounting hole in the rear of the action. My local smith charges $100 to do the entire conversion.
There are lots of used and new lefties on sale on Gunbrokers.

Yup, but it starts at about $2,000 and at least a year wait.

My gunsmith bought a couple of the MRC actions to build with and was disappointed to find same concentricity problems mentioned on the other MRC bashing thread, as well as the actions being too soft or improperly heat treated. He sent them both back.
Just more "rumor."

I bought a Dakota 76 African action from Brownell's and had to send it back to Dakota to get the boogered receiver threads recut to a slightly larger/nonstandard size, at my expense. That is a fact.

Satterlee is sounding better all the time.

RIP can you tell us just what the rockwell readings were that allowed your gunsmith to pronounce them "soft" and improperly heat treated?

It would be good to know what the rockwell readings were.
Thanks
Vapo

i just called john over at mrc @ 4pm eastern and was told that they are on back order but will ship as soon as ready.Iasked about a bankruptcy and was told that the owner just wants to retire from making actions and continue with barrels. So the action part of the company is up for sale i personally hope if someone buys they continue what was started with the actions

But.... We are actually starting to pull out of the rut. We're still backordered on most of our actions and the ones that are coming in are going out as fast as we can get them out. Here's an example. I have 100 Long Actions in Stainless (right hand) that are coming in some time next week, they are already sold.
Keep in mind though that in my opinion we are about 6 months away from putting inventory on the shelves.
Once we are fully stocked with inventory the owner stated that he will again approach it. The pre-orders we already have on hand will remain in effect and when such a time comes that they do decide to do this (PH) action all of those who had ordered will be contacted.

Interesting that Dan at MRC says nothing about the action part being for sale.

See his full post on Medium caliber forum.
