The M98 or the 1640--whichever you like the looks of the most.

Look for a 1640 HVA and also make sure it has the steel bottom metal and you'll be miles ahead.

Works for me, Terry! I'd rebarrel in 270 (or 7X57 - 6.5X55) with a featherweight contour, add a Dakota 3 position safety, Blackburn trigger, then put it in a Winchester 70 featherweight stock clone.

A Winchester model 70 featherweight using an
HVA action! Better than either of the original guns!

Ditto the 1640. It was still a small ring action so it will make a sleeker-looking rifle than the M146 which isn't usually Huaqvarna-made anyway. They were contract FN actions.

I'll admit right now that I'm a majority of one in that I have always thought the M46 commercial '96 as made by Husqvarna was the prettiest of the three and my favorite by a long shot. To my eyes it is equal to the Oberndorf pre-war commercial action in fit and finish. I am also the constant defender of its use with full-pressure rounds so I imagine you can guess which way I would go.
