Removing the bolt on a Rem 700

Bolt removal is accomplished in the same manner as the non J-lock rifles. The bolt stop is de-elevated by pressing up on a small tab just forward of the trigger, inside the triggerguard.

The J-lock is located on the left side of the bolt shroud, near the safety on a LH rifle.

You can see the bolt release tab forward of the trigger in this photo. second photo shows location of j-lock.

I had it fitted by Norm Chandler's 'smiths, at Iron Brigade Armory.

It is integrally bedded with the receiver, pillared in devcon titanium bedding compound.

I admit, that bolt knob does look VERY functional and very good too. What stock have you got on it as well? I love the guns look, and hear tell it shoots even better too.

I had this bolt knob put on by Badger Ordnance. $95.00 ( last year it was $75.00, waited too long) The bolt arrived back to me 14 days from the day I mailed it. There are other places to have one installed, they all charge about the same. Jeff(Celt)Hicks of H.D.Rifles is putting one on the VS .308 for me, along with his 3-screw bolt mod, and a Gre-Tans firing pin assembly to eliminate that J-lock.

McMillan A2 desert camo stock
Badger Ord. floorplate,recoil lug,base,rings,knob
Leuopold 6.5-20x50LR M1 turrets,USMC mildot luminous reticle
Douglas #7 26" SS barrel (chambered 30-06)

Weighs 15 lbs.

The rifle shoots better than me. I can usually keep groups around .5moa. But I've printed several 5-shot groups in the sub .3moa. I've been shooting moly-coated Sierra 190gr matchkings, norma brass, Fed 210 primers. 63gr RL22 yields 2903fps. 50grRL-15 yields approx 2700fps. The RL-15 load is a tad more accurate. A better shooter could surely do better with it than I can.

Someday when I get the .308 up to speed, this 30-06 may get opened up to 300WinMag.
