Takedown Rifle Feeding
I had the opportunity to look over a takedown rifle with one barrel chambered for 458Lott and the other chambered for 300Wby. Beautiful rifle, and the first takedown that I have ever handled.

All I could do was look it over and drool on it, but it got me wondering: how do you make such a rifle feed reliably?

The case head size is the same for each cartridge, but that is where the similarity seems to end. What am I missing?

I'm wondering if the 300 Wby has enough body taper to make a difference. Roy Weatherby did make his cartridges on the fat side.

+1

The cases are actually very similar right up to the shoulder on the 300. Most likely the 300 will feed fine in a rifle that is set-up for the Lott(and IWT a gunsmith would make sure that the rifle fed the DG round flawlessly).

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

I was thinking that setting it up for the Lott would cause the bottleneck cartridge to jam since there would be to ramp along the side of the feed rail to push it into the center.
