Bill LeeperJohn,
Yes, This morning I am looking at in excess of 80 elk within 400 yd of the house. Their behaviour is a little strange this year in a couple of ways. First, the bulls are still bugling and contesting over cows though not with their earlier vigor. Secondly, when the cattle come in off the range the elk don't usually stay around preferring not to be seen in the company of cattle (they lose this prejudice in the winter when they will happily rub shoulders with a hereford for a bite of hay). Perhaps this is because conditions have been so dry this fall.
Nice as it is here though, we are considering selling out and moving back to Idaho or eastern Washington. we shall see. Regards, Bill.

John RicksBill, yea, if it was not for those silly Canadian gun regs I would be moving up to your place as your apprentice.
The Deer Park area in E. Washington sort of gets my vote, I was looking at a 10 acre spread there earlier this year, nice house, barn, sheds, and a shop building for $120K. Close enough to Spokane for supply runs. Did not look much in Idaho, might do that next summer. One of my friends bailed out of the Everett, WA, area and bought a nice place in Salmon, ID, but I have been in Salmon in the winter and lost my truck in the snow drifts!!! Nice Elk area, though.

HunterJimMy wife and I went up to visit John in Port Angeles this August, and we also did some "place to live" shopping. We stayed a couple of nights in Vancouver, WA. We like that area a lot.
You can shop in Oregon across the river (no sales tax), and work or whatever in Washington (no income tax). Not too far from Fort Lewis, WA either.
My uncle has a place in Leadore, I-dee-ho. Although it is 40 miles south of Salmon, it is about 2,000 feet higher IIRC. Uncle Max comes to the coast of California for the winter; he agrees with you.

Bill LeeperMy wife and I are both from the Potlatch, Idaho area and 95% of our family lives between Bonners Ferry and Lewiston with a few rebels in the Spokane area and Palouse. So it is home.
We wandered a lot! Regards, Bill
