Winchester 1894, mfg. date 1955.

There appears to be one large cap screw through the upper reciever tang into the lower receiver tang.

Two smaller screws are located in the lower tang, but don't seem to extend into the upper tang.

Then there's a screw end appearing just behind the trigger block pin, apparently originating inside the receiver tang area.

To remove the buttstock, I just unscrew the one large screw from the top?

The trigger block linkage is disconnected, and I want to have a look.

Yep just the one screw. Make sure you have a proper screwdriver, otherwise the screw will distort a tiny bit.

Yeah, gunsmith's screwdrivers. Thanks for the schematic. I've seen a few drawings, but they're all sort of iffy.

I'm sure what I have is a loose or broken spring.

BINGO ! ! !

The little hairpin spring (part 42) had slipped off the trigger block (part 44).

Stock removed without a hitch. Clean up the mechanism and re-engage the spring. Fixed good as new!

This is a recent acquisition from a pawn shop, and I was afraid maybe part of the mechanism was broken. Nice to have it all in working order!

Nice ol' gun . . . now it's 100% mechanical.
