Winchester 70 or Dakota 76 for custom rifle on short action?
I want to build a custom 22-250 on one of these two actions.
I'll go the whole 9 yards with custom bottom metal, barrel contour, etc.
For reliable function and aesthetic appeal of the final product, which one makes a better foundation?
It will be a medium weight sporter for coyotes and varmints.

M-70 for me as it's just less costly. After that it's pretty much a toss up.

If price is no object, I'd go with the Dakota. It is much better made, and is a better design.

FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Slancey:

First Stop Guns (605-341-5211) has a Dakota short action for sale on Guns America under the category Dakota Rifles. It is about $400 under the normal price from Dakota. They are good people to deal with!
