I would like to do some long range target shooting with a medium/large caliber say something in a .375. I would like to push a 250 grain bullet around 3150 or better preferably. If I can help it I don't want a Weatherby caliber. I have a Remington 06 length action which can be modified and handloading isn't a problem. Any suggestions?

just have a little patience and the .375 Ruger will drive a 250 grainer close to that velocity.

Yes a bit short but still the best option short of the .375 RUM.

WinkOne of my home grown wild cats is a .358 X .404 IMP. It has pushed a 250gr. bullet at over 3100fps. without any detectable pressure signs. Still have the reamer. beerroger

Just recieved so info from Steve Hornady. The new 375 Ruger comes in a 270gr.SP-RP,300gr RN FMJ,300gr.RN. The 270 grainer goes in excess of 2800fps and the 300gr goes at 2700fps. If this will help you out. van

Thank you van but I was looking at a lot more velocity than that. I want to knock steel plates into the ground at distances out to 800 yards or better. and I would like it to be something I can afford to feed. Some standard case or improved version. Does anyone have any data on the 375 improved? That would work through my Remington action I believe.

Look up the .375 Weatherby.....essentially the same (almost) as the .375 H&H Imp.

The .338 RUM or .375 RUM would come closest to filling your bill in a factory-available case. A Rem 700 '06 action could be reworked, but it would make a lot more sense to start with a magnum action to begin with.

The selection of good long range bullets is better in the .338 than in other large calibers, so I would recommend that first.
