craigstersteve,
Do a search here on barrel break in. You'll find dozens and dozens of opinions and techniques.

kwkLook at the barrel maker websites. Lilja's has a procedure and I think Shilen's does too.

Fish30114I think a key thing to remember is that a match barrel, like a Lilja or Shilen, will be lapped and not require so much breaking in. I am a big believer of breaking in factory barrels, and have had good results doing so.
kwk had a good recommendation, check some of the barrel maker's web sites.
My abbreviated version is to shoot and clean after every 3 for the first 15-21, using a lower power load with a lighter projectile--this is easier if you handload of course--
Then shoot and clean after every 5 for the next 30, while developing a load for my rig, and then rock and roll.
Good shooting.

malmSince you will essentially begin wearing out your barrel with the firt round, what I tell my customers is that whichever procedure they choose to use, to make every round count. If you can accomplish a certain task while "breaking in" your barrel, do it. Make it count.

ElCaballeroOne point of clarification. Don't let the barrel get too hot. That goes for new or old. Shoot a few maybe 3 or 5 then let it stand while you do the same with another rifle or someone else hammers a few.
