CAS IIStainless bottom metal for Post-64 (Classic) Winchester 70s
Any interest in high quality stainless bottom metal for Classic Winchester 70's?
I floated the idea to Duane because I need some, and he needs to know the level of interest to justify a run.

Chuck NelsonWhat would be the ballpark cost? I am interested.

McCrayI'd like to know too.

Duane WiebeWhile asking questions....Any interest in a coffin or Rigby style floorplate for the "classic " M-70? Either Stainless or 1018.
My concern is that there would be feeding issues since the front of the box is a little too narrow for most big game cartridges...simply making it deeper would seem to make the problem worse??
I ask because I have only built one custom on the (new) M-70. A 378 WBY...made a new box, then opened the rails...to make it work something....like the old M70!

DavidReedDuane,
I'd be interested in SS bottom metal for the M70 Classic. What alloy would these be? (304, 410, 17-4...?)
Do you think that you/SMP would ever entertain manufacturing properly dimensioned mag boxes for the M70 Classic? i.e. a box that holds four H&H based cartridges (Wby mags, .416 rem...) but being standard depth. Much like the pre-64 in .300 & .375 H&H.

Duane WiebeWell..we weren't really interested in getting into the sheet metal business..but wil probably have to do so.
Right now....we're looking a 303..know more next week..thanks for your reply Duane

EDMHUNTERI am going to need a SS for a .375 classic. Do you make the proper size mag box as well?

One time when I was visiting Ted Blackburn in his shop he showed me a device he had invented for putting together Magazine Boxes for Model 70 Winchesters. Neat Stuff!!!

With all due respect, if you don't like what I have to say please put me on ignore.
My purpose here was not so much to "hump" Ted, but rather to suggest to the poster that what they want or need might already be available.
Moreover, it appears to me that quite a few people on here are "humping' all of the time, which is fine with me.

Big EarlSpeaking of mag. boxes........ I am guessing they could easily be made with two matching dies fitted to an arbor press? Anyone have any ideas on this? I might make up a set of dies.

Duane WiebeThe way I've made them is to simply "wrap 1/16" flat stock around a mandrel and weld one rear corner.
Basic tools..bench vise and hammer.

With all due respect back to ya.
No matter the thread or topic your constantly advertising. The horse is dead. Stop beating on him. We get it. Blackburn makes bottom metal. Now please, with sugar on top...let it go!

CAS IIDuane just told me the stainless units will be about $455

Duane WiebeOn this SS bottom metal: I'm in the business to SELL bottom metal.
The price I told CAS II is a max price. IF ALL GOES WELL, I will adjust. Part of he problem is bar stock locally....I just can't find it...this has to come out of Santa Fe...at least as of this writing!

BIJOUCREEKId be interested in rigby style in stainless and 1018. Sunny hill has the stainless and chromoly for M 70 classic in standard and drop box for any length, but his is not like the thick plate rigby and it will barely hold 4 down with the factory magazine, I would like it to easily hold 4, like 4 1/2 down in 458 lott or similar, and I think it needs a thick plate (rigby style) so the spring and follower can recess into the plate some to allow 4 down easliy, using the factory magazine and longer screws.
Either way if you build them they will sell, all the bottom metal makers can never keep any in stock there hot.
