Gringo Cazador300 H&H, my next next project
Getting close to finishing my 376 Steyr, looks like it's going to be a while on the blackburn bottom metal for my lott.
So, think I'll start on 300 H&H on a mauser, probably a VZ, but not sure on what barrel contour, probably 2 or 3 shilen. I have a Dakota Qtr Rib for a #3, but 3 maybe a little fat, not sure I want a qtr rib for a 300. Comments if anybody wants to jump in.
I have a really nice piece of Claro, not that I like Claro but this one is nice.

Gringo, I did the exact same thing a few years back. The picture has been posted 100 times or so. Mine is a Shilen#3 with the Dakota quarter rib. While I really like the looks of the rifle it turned out just a little too heavy for my tastes. I hunt down south where tree stands are a lot more productive so It's not a big deal, but I'd hate to haul this rifle around. If I were to do it again, I'd opt for a #2 contour 24" long barrel with a classy set of NEGC sights.

Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
Here are a couple of pics of the ribbed barrel before.

schromfI will throw in a non quarter rib option, how about a mauser type "E" profile, with the collar rear sight base.
Walther makes the profile, and NECG makes the rear sight sleeve, use sight with 1 standing and two folding. Up front do a barrel band with a hood.
Make a very nice 300 H&H, make sure your scope is removable.

Yea, it's the same one pictured in your last thread. It just doesn't have any checking in these pictures.

Gringo CazadorTC1,
That is my exact concern, it turn out to heavy. I will probably go back to my orig plan and use the qtr rib on my 376.
I'll probably go with a #2.
Nice qtr rib, who did the work, and if I've asked that before, its because I turned 50 this week and I can't remember sh....t anymore. I'd like to see a close up pic of that qtr rib if you have one, but please don't take on special.

Michael Scherz cut it me. I think it would be perfect for anything .338 up.

Ditto. This is in the works for my Brevex 510 and my Burgess 09 Peruvian projects. Also a barrel band sling stud.
